Sony made a cool thing, ‘wearable’ AC to beat the heat for about Rs 15,000

Sony has unveiled a cutting-edge contraption – a futuristic bodily air conditioner that boasts portability. This compact AC can be discreetly nestled into the rear of your attire. Such groundbreaking innovation holds promise as a substitute for conventional hand-held fans.

Introduced on April 23, Sony’s Reon Pocket 5, labeled as a ‘smart wearable thermo device kit’, heralds a wearable climate regulation system that promises tailored comfort while on the move. Positioned at the nape of the neck, the device employs a thermal module and an array of sensors, including those for temperature, humidity, and motion, to ascertain the optimal ambient temperature.

What features does Reon Pocket 5 encompass? This gadget presents users with five cooling settings for sweltering days and four heating options for cooler settings. This versatility renders it suitable for diverse scenarios such as packed trains and chilly aircraft cabins. It’s worth noting that the device can be paired with the accompanying Reon Pocket Tag. This diminutive wearable tag functions akin to a remote sensor, detecting ambient conditions and relaying data to the neck unit for proactive temperature adjustments. While the Reon Pocket 5 operates autonomously, focusing on regulating body temperature, the Reon tag augments this by offering a more holistic approach to personalized comfort.

How can one procure the Reon Pocket 5? Pre-orders for this innovative device are now open on Sony’s official website, priced at 139 pounds ($170 USD or roughly Rs 15,000). Scheduled to commence shipping on May 15th, the package, dubbed “Reon 5T,” includes the Reon Pocket 5, a Reon Pocket Tag, and a white neckband. For those inclined towards a touch of elegance, Sony offers a beige neckband for an additional 25 pounds.

Explaining the design nuances, Sony elucidated in a press release, “The air vent for business style extends up to the height of the collar, matching the shape of the neck and back, while the other is shorter for casual style to match the low collar, both of which allow for efficient airflow.” The latest REON POCKET 5 will debut in Singapore come May 2024, followed by releases in Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam, as per insights from Sony.
