JP Nadda, Amit Malviya summoned by Karnataka Police over controversial post targeting Muslims

It seems there’s quite a bit of controversy surrounding a social media post by the BJP Karnataka’s official account, leading to summonses for BJP national president JP Nadda and IT cell chief Amit Malviya by the Karnataka Police. The post in question, which allegedly violates the Model Code of Conduct, has sparked a FIR under the Representation of People Act and Section 505(2) of the Indian Penal Code.

The FIR names Nadda, Malviya, and Karnataka unit chief BY Vijayendra. It stems from a complaint filed by Ramesh Babu on May 5, citing a video posted on May 4. The video, attributed to the official account of BJP Karnataka, portrays Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah as animated characters. Allegedly, the video depicts the SC, ST, and OBC communities as “eggs” in a nest, with a big egg labeled as the Muslim community, suggesting funds being directed towards it while sidelining other communities.

The Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) has taken issue with this portrayal, lodging complaints with both the Election Commission and the police, alleging violations of the Model Code of Conduct. The controversy has escalated with summonses issued to key BJP figures for investigation.

It’s a complex situation involving political parties, social media, and allegations of communal bias, highlighting the challenges of managing online content during sensitive political periods.
